Today, the AFSCME Florida family is celebrating its continued momentum across the state as two elections conducted by Florida’s Public Employees Relations Commission both resulted in clear victories.

In Broward County, the members of AFSCME Local 2200, who work at Port Everglades, voted decisively to recertify their union and keep their contract with 100% voting in favor.

Meanwhile, in Duval County, AFSCME Florida added a new local union after supervisors for the Duval County Public Schools voted 100% in favor of AFSCME as well. They will next form a bargaining committee to get started on their first contract.

AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:

“We always said that AFSCME would not just stand strong but also fight back and today puts facts behind those words. By winning the recertification election for Local 2200 we are continuing to help our members improve their jobs. And by winning a union for supervisors in the Duval County schools, we are giving even more dedicated public service workers the right to a better future.”
