AFSCME Florida Statement on String of Recertification Wins Across Florida

Workers Have Retained Their Unions in Miami-Dade and Hillsborough Counties along with the cities of Hallandale Beach and Dania Beach

Miami Springs – This week, even more workers voted to recertification their AFSCME union. Two elections, held by mail, ended with workers in Hallandale Beach voting unanimously to recertify their voice on the job while workers in Dania Beach voted also voted unanimously in favor of doing the same. They join their fellow AFSCME members with Miami-Dade County’s Water-Sewer Department who voted 99% in favor and members in Hillsborough County who voted almost 97% in favor.

AFSCME Florida Administrator James Spears, Jr. released the following statement:

“We are well into another year of recertification elections, and one thing is clear – the more things change the more Florida dedicated public service workers value having a strong union voice on the job. We are proud to continue to work with and represent these workers who, no matter what their job is or where they do it, all make their communities safe, healthy and livable. It is unfortunate we continue to have to hold these elections to prove what we already know – our state is stronger when public service workers can share in the prosperity they help create.”
