At the second session of negotiations with the County today, Miami-Dade Administration negotiators announced that if Local 199 agrees to the County’s new group health care proposal, the County will end mandatory furlough days, restore the Floating Holiday, Premium Pay, and will reinstate Flex Pay as part of our new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Prior to negotiations, the Mayor’s proposed budget sought to eliminate those “snapbacks,” along with several other rights workers have on the job, including the entire grievance process. Today’s announcement is very good news for Local 199 and a testament to the hard work and engagement of our Contract Committee to fight to get us what we deserve.
The Administration agreed to increase annual consecutive leave from two to three weeks, and to increase the holiday leave cap for employees from 120 hours to 240. Additionally, the Administration restated today that the Mayor’s proposed 10% base pay cut is off the table.
The Administration, however, is still looking to implement proposals in our CBA that attacks worker’s rights on the job, including eliminating the requirement to notify the Union when contracting out.
Moving forward, we have to pull together and stand strong during these negotiations because we cannot allow a contract that busts up our Union or threatens our fundamental rights on the job. We also need to have a discussion about the County’s health care proposals and what it means for our members.
Here is a chart of the Local 199 proposals accepted by the County and new proposals from the County after the first session of negotiations.
